Giving your Home a new Option

A Venice, California Architect Couple List Their Flashy, Floral Home for $3.4M

When architects Jonathan Ward and Jin Ah Park designed a home of their own in 2015, they decided to incorporate an offering for the neighborhood: a striking piece of artwork along the facade. Located in Venice, California, just blocks from world-famous beach boardwalks, the open-air structure features a laser-cut aluminum screen along the exterior. The dramatic piece of structural art shines during the day and is illuminated into the night, adding to the home’s allure.

The home’s front facade catches the eye with a laser-cut aluminum screen wrapping around the second-floor facade. A low fence out front signals the welcomed gaze of those who pass by.

Once inside, the interior soars upward in the double-height living area. Sliding glass doors seamlessly connect a central courtyard, wrap around the kitchen, and meet a secondary living area in the back.

Today, the home is affectionately known as the California Poppy House. Among the home’s other striking features is a voluminous living area grounded by a wood-clad wall on one side and soaring glass walls on the other. A clear and elegant floor plan eliminates sight lines, seamlessly connecting the dining area, kitchen, and an outdoor courtyard.

Another view of the living area reveals the main entrance and the adjacent dining area. A double-height wall of wood grounds the space, complementing an arrangement of cabinetry in the dining area.

A closer look at the kitchen. Custom wooden cabinets wraps around the space, contrasted by white countertops and sleek, modern finishes.

Sliding glass doors open up the main living areas to a central and private courtyard deck, which offers exotic fruit trees as a backdrop for entertaining. Continuing toward the back of the home, more sliding doors open up an adjacent music room to a cozy backyard, complete with a whimsical children’s play structure.

Throughout the interior, materials and finishes were inspired by the experiences Ward and Park have had working on architectural projects all over the world. Sustainability also played a key role in the design, with rooftop solar panels providing net-zero energy source for the home. Recently, the couple decided it was time to say farewell, putting the residence up on the market with an asking price of $3,395,000. Scroll ahead to see more of this unique property.

Two bedroom and two full bathrooms are located upstairs. Here, a look at the master bedroom, which looks out onto the aluminum screen along the front facade.

The luxurious master bathroom features a huge steam shower, along with a penny-tiled floor and sleek finishes all around.

The second bedroom upstairs also offers an en-suite bathroom.

Back downstairs, the music room serves as another living area just off the central deck. The space could also be used as a third bedroom with an adjacent bathroom around the corner.

More sliding glass doors open to the backyard.

The whimsical play area awaits new owners. A detached, two-car garage sits just behind.
